About Us
Aim of the HRSE is to promote knowledge and world-class research within all aspects of histamine biology and related fields.
We connect researchers from disciplines including chemistry, pharmacology, physiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics and clinical research. Through scientific conferences and an active forum for exchange, HRSE supports collaboration, networking and career development, especially for young investigators with travel bursaries and awards.
HRSE builds on more than five decades of histamine research. Its origins go back to Łódź, Poland, where a 1971 satellite symposium on the regulation of biogenic amines, chaired by Czesław Maśliński, gave rise to the informal “European Branch of the Histamine Club”; the first formal meeting followed in Paris in 1972.
In 1979, this network developed into the European Histamine Research Society (EHRS), a non-profit association of scientists and physicians dedicated to promoting knowledge and research in all aspects of histamine biology and related fields. From the 1970s onward, EHRS members met annually in major European cities, creating a focused, collegial and interdisciplinary forum that brought together pharmacologists, chemists, physiologists, molecular biologists, clinicians and other researchers.
The transition from EHRS to HRSE was marked at the 51st EHRS Meeting and 1st HRSE meeting in Turin in May 2024. Today, HRSE continues the EHRS’s mission. More information on these historic developments can be found here and here.
